The women’s final at the Climbing World Cup in Prague was cancelled due to strong winds. Organizers thank fans for their understanding and offer ticket holders compensation.
Dear spectators and fans of sport climbing,
We are truly sorry that the women’s final of the Climbing World Cup could not take place on Sunday evening, and we fully understand all the emotions this decision may have brought.
The organizers did everything they could until the very last moment to make the final happen, but due to the weather conditions, it simply wasn’t possible. Strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 17 m/s, posed a significant safety risk to both the athletes and spectators. The maximum threshold for safe operation was 10 m/s.
We remained in constant contact with experts from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. Based on their guidance, we decided to start the women’s semifinal earlier on Sunday. This later proved to be a key and correct decision, as a storm hit the venue during the originally scheduled semifinal time.
The forecast for Sunday evening was not favorable, yet we continued to explore every possible option to conduct the event safely. Unfortunately, the conditions left us with no viable solution. As difficult as the decision was, there was no alternative.
Throughout the World Cup weekend, the organizers had to contend with severe weather, which heavily disrupted the schedule and affected the experience for everyone involved. We were forced to evacuate the venue twice. Despite these challenges, over 10,000 spectators came to Letná over the course of three days, and we are extremely grateful for that. It makes it all the more painful that we were unable to deliver the anticipated women’s final.
While we cannot control the weather, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation of the women’s final. We acknowledge your feedback and questions, including concerns about the delayed communication regarding the postponement and later cancellation of the final. We are actively working to ensure faster and more effective communication with fans in the future.
At the same time, we are already evaluating ways to better handle adverse weather in the coming years — whether by moving the competition indoors, changing locations within Prague, or redesigning the climbing wall structure.
As compensation for the cancelled women’s final, we are offering a discount for the next edition of the Climbing World Cup. Anyone who contacts us by June 30, 2025 at info@climbingworldcup.cz with a valid electronic ticket for Sunday, June 8, or for both competition days of the 2025 event, will receive a 30% discount on the bouldering portion of the 2026 event. In addition, we will send you a 30% discount code for our official e-shop, valid until August 31, 2025.
Thank you for your fantastic support, which helps make the Prague World Cup one of the most highly rated events in the entire series. We hope you’ll continue to stand with us.
